Posted by Faith on October 30th, 2009 When my daughter came home from school and she brought her new boyfriend, I did not like him very much. He was wearing a very offensive t shirt that degraded women. My daughter did not see what the big deal was, and she actually said that he wears funny shirts like that all the time. I did not find anything about it funny. I was just hoping that the weekend would go well and he would not turn out to be as big of a jerk as I had tagged him to be.
My husband and I spent a lot of time talking to her new boyfriend and my daughter over the next few days. I was thankful that he did not wear anymore of his so called funny shirts over the weekend. I do not know if my daughter said that I did not like offensive t shirts, or he just made a wise decision to not do it.
After getting to know him, I actually liked him. I just wished that he had not made such a horrible first impression on me. I guess that as long as he continues to treat my daughter well, I will give them my blessing. I also hope that he is wise enough not to ever wear any of those t shirts around me ever again.
Posted by Faith on October 13th, 2009 I just contacted a Minnesota window company to come out and give me an estimate of what is going to cost to replace the four windows that were damaged when a tree fell through them. I was sleeping when high winds blew over a small tree in our front yard but it ended up going through the four windows in the front of the house.
We were woken when we heard the glass breaking and we ran downstairs. I could not believe my eyes and my husband was just thankful that it was not one of the bigger trees that are in the yard. In addition to having a Minnesota window company come out, we also need to have a siding company come and tell us how much it is going to cost to repair or replace all of the siding that was smashed, scratched or torn off of the house. We know that our insurance company will cover all of it, but we just want to make sure that we are able to pick the siding company that does the work so that we are comfortable with them and trust that they will do a good job.
When we have both the window and siding estimates, I will be going to the insurance company to drop them off and then to the furniture store to replace the lamps and table that were also ruined when the tree came crashing in.
Posted by Faith on October 11th, 2009 When I lost my job last spring, I considered letting my life insurance go and then I would not have that bill. I did not do it and was so glad that I found a job about two months later that allowed me to get back on my feet. I had let my cell phone go, my house phone, and my cable. I figured that those were things that I did not really need. I knew that if something happened to me though, my wife and kids would be taken care of since I had opted to keep the life insurance.
Shortly after I got my new job, we got our cell phones, house phone and cable all turned back on. I also went to my insurance company and purchased additional no exam life insurance just because I saw how hard it was for those two months when I did not have a job and for the few months after I found another one. I cannot imagine how hard it would be for my wife if I was suddenly not here to provide for her and the kids.
I have also sat down with my attorney along with my wife and we have planned out everything in the event something happened to either of us, or even both of us. Our kids will be taken care of and not have to worry about a thing. Not having a job for a couple of months really puts your life into perspective.
